Softball Coach Mike Candrea Wins 900th Game

The Arizona softball team won their 66th consecutive home game on Friday night, defeating Louisiana-Lafeyette 6-2. The win was the 900th Division I victory for head coach Mike Candrea.
The Wildcats got on the board quickly against the Lady Cajuns, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first run came from junior leadoff hitter Lovie Jung who hit her 8th home run of the season. Senior UA pitcher Jennie Finch provided the other three runs of the inning with her three-run blast, scoring sophomore first baseman Leneah Manuma and freshman catcher Mackenzie Vandergeest.
Lousiana-Lafeyette got their first run of the game with a home run by junior Becky McMurtry in the fourth inning off of Finch.
The Wildcats extended the lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jung hit her second homer of the game, a two-run shot, scoring outfielder freshman Crystal Farley.The final run of the game came in the sixth inning from the Lady Cajuns. Senior Jerie Alexander walked and moved to second base on an illegal pitch from Finch. Senior Alana Addison singled to left field to score Alexander. With the final run Alexander became the all-time runs leader for the Lady Cajuns.
Jung led the Cats on offense, going 2-3 with three RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman outfielder Courtney Fossatti returned to the Arizona lineup for the first time in weeks after recovering from a stress fracture in her left foot. She collected one hit and had two putouts on defense.
Finch collected six strikeouts in collecting her 17th victory of the season and her 57th consecutive win.
Arizona returns to action Saturday, March 23 when they face Louisiana-Lafayette at 7p.m.
