On Friday, Stanford women's basketball head coach Tara VanDerveer hits this chat room to talk about the Cardinal's Saturday NCAA Tournament matchup with Colorado.
This season, VanDerveer and the Cardinal won the conference title for the 11th time in 16 years and the school is the only team in the Pac-10 to boast 200 conference wins. The team had a perfect league season and it is program's fourth (Stanford also went 18-0 in 1988-89, 1995-96 and 1996-97).
VanDerveer, who has guided the Cardinal to two NCAA titles (1990, '92) and a 34-12 mark in the Big Dance, signed a five-year contract extension in September that keeps her on The Farm through March 2007.
In the first two rounds of the this year's tournament, the No. 2 seeded Cardinal have beaten Weber State (76-51) and Tulane (77-55). Next up is the Colorado Buffalos who are 23-9 on the year. Saturday's game marks the third time in nine years that these two teams have met in the Sweet 16. They are 1-1 in the round of 16, with Stanford winning the last NCAA Tournament meeting in 1994. Stanford returns to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1997.
