Men's Track Scores Pole Vault & Javelin Wins at USC

LOS ANGELES - The University of Oregon men's track and field squad claimed two wins and an NCAA provisional mark in its first away date of the outdoor season.

All-America sophomore pole vaulter Trevor Woods raised his outdoor best of 17-6 1/2 to claim the win over USC's Jeff Ryan (second, 17-0 3/4) and also easily meet the NCAA minimum provisional standard of 17-2 3/4. The Coos Bay, Ore.,native's mark was his third this month of 17-4 or better after a third-place finish in the NCAA Indoor Championships (personal best 17-11 3/4) and in the Oregon Preview last weekend (first, 17-4 1/2).

Also in the field events Saturday, sophomores Adam Jenkins and Nick Bakke shared the javelin victory with a throw of 200-5. and senior Jason Boness raised his outdoor best to 7-0 1/2 to take second in the high jump, just ahead of redshirt senior Kyley Johnson third, 6-10 3/4) and redshirt junior Jake Horner (fourth, 6-8 3/4).

On the track, senior Micah Harris missed the NCAA provisional mark in the 110 hurdles by only .01 seconds with his season best and second-place time (13.91), trailing only USC's Ryan Wilson (first, 13.59). Also in the sprints, the 4x100 (41.64) and 4x400 (3:15.32) each took second to USC and BYU in their respective races

All of the aforementioned Duck individuals also notched Pac-10 Championships qualifying marks, as did junior Cory Gray (100, third, 10.73), junior Terry Ellis (110 hurdles, fifth, 14.64), and redshirt senior Cody Howell (pole vault, third, 16-6 3/4)

Near misses among the Pac-10 lists included redshirt senior Ross Krempley (800, fourth, 1:52.86) and and redshirt junior Adam Kriz (hammer, second, 189-5).

Looking ahead to next weekend, several Duck men's distance runners will compete in the Stanford Invitational, Fri.-Sat., March 29-30, while the Duck women compete against Air Force, Arizona State, Boise State, and Colorado in Tempe, Ariz, Sat., March 30.
