Women's Tennis Defeats Central Florida 4-3
March 25, 2002
ORLANDO, Fla. - Newcomer Daria Panova helped spark the University of Oregon women's tennis to a 4-3 win Monday over Central Florida.
'It was a good match for us since we haven't been outdoors for a while,' Oregon coach Jack Griffin said. 'We put the match away 4-0 pretty quick, which showed a lot of character and desire of our team.'
Panova, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, joined the team last week and won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles in her first collegiate match against Central Florida's Emmanuelle Sauze.
Oregon improves to 8-9 on the season while the Golden Knights fall to 6-8.
The Ducks remain in Florida for the remainder of the week with two matches on their slate. On Wednesday, Oregon will take on South Florida at 2 p.m. and then will play Friday against Florida International at noon.
