Dodd Selected to Participate at NCAA Regionals

BERKELEY - Freshman all-arounder My-Lan Dodd will participate in the 2002 NCAA West Regionals as an all-around competitor April 6 at 6 p.m. at Oregon State. The Seattle native qualified for the postseason after tallying a regional qualifying score of 38.985, ninth best in the West Region.
In addition to Dodd, junior Janet McKnight has been selected as an alternate on the vault.
Although in her first year of collegiate competition, Dodd has been one of the most consistent performers for the Bears in 2002. She started off her career with the top all-around score of 39.100 against Cal State Fullerton Jan. 12. Dodd recorded her career-high in the all-around against Stanford Feb. 22 with a mark of 39.225.
Dodd scored well on individual events as well, recording a personal high of 9.900 on the bars in a home quad meet Mar. 16. She earned a 9.900 on the floor vs. Fullerton.
Cal finished seventh in the Pac-10 championships with a score of 189.700 last weekend.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event (who has a minimum qualifying score of 9.4) were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., April 18-20.
