Henry Wins 100m Dash, Runs NCAA PQ at Stanford Invite

STANFORD, Calif. -- Washington State sprinter Anson Henry clocked an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 10.31 en route to winning the 100m dash at the Stanford Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
The performance was the fastest time of the year for Henry, a senior from Pickering, Ontario, and just .03 seconds off his lifetime best.
Franco-Parra, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., ran the men's 10,000m in a lifetime best and NCAA PQ time of 29 minutes, 27.09 seconds. Franco-Parra finished fifth among the 45 runners in the second section of the 10k.
Blue, a junior from Olympia, Wash., finished ninth in a field of 32 women in the first section of the 5000m race with an NCAA PQ and personal best time of 16:27.76.
Cougar women establishing Pac-10 qualifying marks Saturday included: Randi Smith placing eighth in the 100m hurdles in 14.02, Tiffany Giles clocking 54.63 to place third in the 400m, and Brittany Hinchcliffe with a lifetime-best throw of 154-11 (47.21m) to take fourth in the discus B section.
Other top performances for the WSU women's Saturday came from Blessing Ufodiama taking fourth-place in the triple jump at 40-8 3/4 (12.41m), and Sammy Jo Missel with a lifetime best 167-3 (50.98m) to grab sixth place in the hammer throw.
Two Cougars grabbed positions in the top eight for the men's triple jump. Jamil Smith leaped a Pac-10 qualifying 49-10 (14.88m) en route to placing second, while Justin Nikbakhsh-Tali finished eighth at 46-9 1/2 (14.26m).
Other Cougar men with notable marks included: Tim Gehring won the B section of the hammer throw with a toss of 193-feet, 8 inches (59.02m), in the javelin, Matt McGee was third at 199-5 (60.79m) and Nate Cummings sixth at 193-6 (58.97m), Rick Collins cleared 16-2 3/4 (4.95m) for fourth in the pole vault while Ryan Turner reached 15-9 (4.80) for sixth, John Manthey placed sixth in the 800m B section running 1:53.25, Ian Johnson finished seventh in the B section of the 1500m with a Pac-10 qualifying time of 3:49.44, Dione Cason placed sixth with a time of 22.19 in the 200m B section.
Friday highlights for the Cougar women included: Hillary Smith was seventh in the 800m B section with a time of 2:13.26, Randi Smith finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.36, and Stephanie Robinett cleared 11-11 3/4 (3.65m) for fifth in the pole vault B section.
Next week the Cougar track and field teams travel to Austin, Texas, to compete in the Texas Relays, April 5-6.
