No. 20 California Defeats No. 19 Washington in Women's Tennis

Seattle. - The 20th-ranked California women won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests Saturday claiming a 6-1 victory over No. 19 Washington in the Huskies final home match of the season.
Washington's record dropped to 13-5 with its second straight home loss after starting the year 7-0 at home. The Golden Bears improved to 10-4.
The Huskies claimed their only victory in No. 6 position with Erin Hoe taking care of Kristen Case 6-2, 6-4. No. 41 Claire Carter started out strong against No. 42 Raquel Kops-Jones winning the first set 1-6. However, she lost the next two 7-5 and 6-4.
In the rest of the singles matches Ilona Kordonskaya lost to No. 74 Jieun Jacobs 7-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the No.2 position. In the No. 3 position Colleen Gray lost in straight sets to No. 113 Catherine Lynch 7-5, 6-4. In No. 4 singles Dea Sumatri was able to win first set 3-6, against No. 82 Christina Fusano. However, she faltered in the last two sets losing 7-6, 6-4. Finally in No. 5 singles Carla Arguelles defeated Andrea Coulter 7-6(1), 6-1.
The Bears clinched the team victory in No, 2 doubles with Fusano and Jacobs defeating Carter and Hoe 8-6.
In other doubles No. 44 Kops-Jones and Jody Scheldt defeated the duo of Gray and Sumatri 8-3. Coulter and Kordonskaya also fell losing to Arguelles and Lynch 8-4.
This was the Huskies final home match. They will be in action again Friday (Apr. 5) when they travel to Arizona to take on the Wildcats. The match will begin at 1:30 PM.
