Baseball Records 600th Win At Dedeaux Field

April 2, 2002

LOS ANGELES - Junior second baseman Anthony Lunetta registered four RBI in two at-bats in the seventh inning, including a three-run double Tuesday, and the USC Trojans defeated the UC Irvine Anteaters, 13-5, in non-conference action. The Trojans recorded the 600th win at Dedeaux Field, which opened in 1974, and are now 600-263-1 (.695) at their home facility.

USC (16-13) sent 14 batters to the plate as part of a 10-run seventh inning. Brian Barre hit his seventh home run of the season while Bill Peavey added his sixth, both solo shots, earlier in the game.

The Trojans were able to rally after USC reliever Jon Williams (4-1) gave up a two-run homer to Matt Anderson to give UC Irvine (19-15) the 5-3 lead in the seventh. UCI brought in relief ace Michael Koehler, who had five saves on the season. David Gordon led off the inning with a single and pinch-hitter Kris Cox walked. Michael Moon hit an RBI single to right, knocking Koehler out of the game.

Williams went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Brett Bannister mopped up in the eighth and ninth, allowing only two hits and striking out four. The Trojans did not allow a walk for the second time this season (at Pepperdine on March 16).

USC will host Oregon State this weekend in a Pac-10 Conference series, beginning on Friday (April 5) at 6 p.m. with 1 p.m. starts for Saturday (April 6) and Sunday (April 7) at Dedeaux Field. All three games will be broadcast live, along with Live Stats play-by-play, on www.usctrojans.com. The Trojans are in first place in the Pac-10 Conference with a 3-0 record.
