UCLA Women Ranked Third In The Nation In Trackwire's First Outdoor Poll

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track & field team is ranked No. 3 in the U. S. this week inTrackwire's first weekly rankings of the 2002 outdoor season. Trackwire's Top 25 is based on its teamplacement predictions for the upcoming 2002 NCAA Outdoor T & F Championships, held May 29-June 1in Baton Rouge, LA and hosted by LSU.

UCLA is No. 3 this week with 52 points, behind No. 1 USC (84) and No. 2 LSU (69). LSU lastmonth won the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships, the Bruins were second (UCLA won the NCAA Indoorwomen's title in 2000 and 2001) and USC last spring won the NCAA Outdoor team title (UCLA wassecond).

Four other Pac-10 women's teams are also ranked this week - No. 8 Washington State, No. 12(tie) Stanford, No. 14 (tie) Arizona and No. 25 (tie) Arizona State.

This Saturday (April 6), the Bruins will team with No. 12 Stanford to face No. 14 Arizona andNorthern Arizona in the CA-AZ Challenge in Tucson, AZ. On April 13, UCLA will host Brigham Youngand CS Northridge in a home meet at Drake Stadium. This week, BYU is No. 9 (tie) in the U. S. On May 4at Drake, the Bruins will host No. 1 USC in the traditional dual meet between the two schools.
