CALIFORNIA'S DUJE DRAGANJA NAMED NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
STANFORD's SKIP KENNEY NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- CALIFORNIA's Anthony Ervin and Duje Draganja were named the Pacific-10 2001-02 Swimmer and Newcomer of the Year and STANFORD's Skip Kenney was named Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Ervin, a junior from Valencia, Calif., won an individual title in the 100-yard freestyle event and placed second in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Georgia. His time of 41.62 in the 100 free is an NCAA and American record. He was part of the Bears team that won the 400 free relay event. At the Pacific-10 Championships, held in Long Beach, Calif., Ervin was part of the 400 free relay team that took first place. He also placed second in the 50 free.

Draganja, a freshman from Split, Croatia, did well at the NCAA Championships, winning a title in the 400 free relay. He placed second in the 100 and 200 free events. At the Pac-10 Championships he won the 100 free title with a time of 42.82 and was part of Cal's winning 400 free relay team.

Kenney, led the Cardinal to its 21st consecutive Pacific-10 Championship. At the Conference championships, his swimmers won seven individual titles and three relay titles. Kenney coached Stanford to a second consecutive runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships. At the pool in Athens, Georgia, the Cardinal notched three individual titles and three relay titles. The men's swimming Coach of the Year award is the 14th of Kenney's career.

The Swimmer, Newcomer and Coach of the Year honors are determined by a coaches vote.
