Peter Marshall Takes Silver In 50m Back At FINA World Championships

April 6, 2002

Moscow, Russia - Stanford swimmer Peter Marshall (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up his third medal at the FINA Short Course World Championships, held in Moscow, Russia.

Marshall led things off for the Americans, collecting a silver medal in the 50m back. The sophomore swam a 24.04 to touch behind Australia's Matt Welsh, who won his third world title tonight.

'I was trying to be relaxed before the race,' said Marshall. 'I wanted to get the crowd into it to get me ready, because it's only a 50. It's good to be up there with Welsh, but I don't want to be looking up at him, I want to beat him.'
