Bruin Men's T & F Hosts BYU And CS Northridge, Saturday

Art Venegas' UCLA men's track and field team will host Brigham Young andCal State Northridge on Saturday (April 13) at Drake Stadium. It will beUCLA's second home meet of the 2002 outdoor season and the Bruins' finalhome tuneup before hosting USC on May 4 at Drake Stadium.
The first event (hammer throws) will start at 9 a.m. with the rest ofthe field events beginning at 11 a.m. and the first running event startingat 12:30 p.m. (steeplechases). The meet will end at 4 p.m. with the runningof the 4 X 400m relays. Team scoring will be both dual (individual events,5-3-2-1, relays, 5-3) and triangular (individual events, 7-5-4-3-2-1,relays, 7-5-4).
Last week, in Trackwire's first season outdoor poll, Venegas' UCLAmen were tied for No. 24 and the BYU men were tied for No. 22.
In UCLA's first home meet of the season, March 16 at Drake Stadium,the Bruin men defeated Washington State and California in dual andtriangular scoring.
Bruin Men at CA/AZ Challenge
Venegas' UCLA men, tied for No. 24 last week in the U. S., joinedwith Stanford, tied for No. 19, to defeat Arizona and Northern Arizona.
Team California (UCLA/Stanford) won with 106 points to Team Arizona's(Arizona/Northern Arizona) 97. Bruin winners included-
100m-junior John McCauley (10.57w), who also placed fourth in the200m (22.63, season legal best)
110mH-sophomore Charles Ryan (13.67w, personal-best wind-aided markand NCAA automatic qualifier)
400mH-junior Kyle Erickson (51.34)
4 X 100m Relay-UCLA and Stanford combined to win the relay (42.65)
HJ-junior Kevin Weaver (6-8.75)
SP-sophomore Dan Ames (62-2.50), who also placed second in the discus(192-7, season-best, NCAA provisional qualifier) and third in the hammerthrow (185-1).
DT-senior Scott Moser (198-9, season-best, NCAA automatic qualifier,No. 2 collegiate mark on current chart). Moser also won the hammer throw.
HT-senior Scott Moser (206-7, personal-best, NCAA provisionalqualifier).
After Saturday's home meet with BYU and CS Northridge, the Bruins thefollowing week will send athletes to five events - Antelope ValleyInvitational (April 18), Azusa Pacific Multi Events (April 18-19), PomonaInvitational (April 19), Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21) and Long BeachInvitational (April 20).
