UCLA Women's T & F Hosts BYU, CS Northridge At Drake Stadium, Saturday

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track and field team will host Brigham Youngand Cal State Northridge on Saturday (April 13) at Drake Stadium. It willbe UCLA's second home meet of the 2002 outdoor season and the Bruins' finalhome tuneup before hosting USC on May 4 at Drake Stadium.
The first event (hammer throws) will start at 9 a.m. with the rest ofthe field events beginning at 11 a.m. and the first running event startingat 12:30 p.m. (steeplechases). The meet will end at 4 p.m. with the runningof the 4 X 400m relays. Team scoring will be both dual (individual events,5-3-2-1, relays, 5-3) and triangular (individual events, 7-5-4-3-2-1,relays, 7-5-4).
Last week, in Trackwire's first season outdoor poll, Bolden's Bruinwomen were rated No. 3 in the nation and the BYU women were tied for No. 9in the U. S.
In UCLA's first home meet of the season, March 16 at Drake Stadium,the Bruin women defeated Washington State and California in dual andtriangular scoring.
Bruin Women at CA/AZ Challenge
Bolden's UCLA women, ranked No. 3 last week in the U. S., joined withStanford, tied for No. 12, to defeat Arizona, tied for No. 14 and NorthernArizona. Team California (UCLA/Stanford) won with 130.5 points to TeamArizona's (Arizona/Northern Arizona) 71.5. Bruin winners included-
200m-freshman Monique Henderson (24.45), who was also second in the100m (11.62w).
400m-senior Bumni Ogunleye (56.24), who was also second in the longjump (20-2.25w).
4 X 400m Relay- With runners from UCLA and Stanford, Team CaliforniaB won the event with a time of 3:40.49.
HJ-senior Darnesha Griffith (5-7), who was also second in the triplejump (38-11.50w). Last month, Griffith won the high jump at the NCAAIndoor.
PV-senior Tracy O'Hara in a dual with Arizona sophomore Amy Linnen(last month at the 2002 NCAA Indoor, Linnen won the event with O'Haraplacing second), O'Hara won with a season-best tying and U. S. collegiatebest tying mark of 14-1.25, with Linnen placing second (13-7.25).
TJ-freshman Candice Baucham (40-9w), who also placed third in thelong jump (19-1.50w).
SP-freshman Jessica Cosby (53-1.75), who also placed third in thehammer throw (187-9, personal-best, NCAA provisional qualifier).
DT-freshman Briona Reynolds (174-2, personal-best, NCAA provisionalqualifier), who was also third in the shot put (49-4.25).
HT-sophomore Cari Soong (209-10, season-best, NCAA automaticqualifier, second on the current U. S. collegiate list)
After Saturday's home meet with BYU and CS Northridge, the Bruins thefollowing week will send athletes to five events - Antelope ValleyInvitational (April 18), Azusa Pacific Multi Events (April 18-19), PomonaInvitational (April 19), Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21) and Long BeachInvitational (April 20).
