Men's Golf Places Eighth at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The California men's golf team shot a 288 in the third round to place eighth at the 56th Annual Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State University on the Pasatiempo Golf Course. The Bears finished the tournament with a team total of 869 (286-295-288), while Washington captured the team title by 20 strokes with a score of 834.

Sophomore Peter Tomasulo placed fourth individually with a 54-hole 209 (69-70-70). George Serra tied for 25th place with a 219 (69-76-74) and Scott Carlyle tied for 30th with a 220 (74-74-72).

Conner Robbins of Washington took home the individual title after firing a two-under 68 in the final round to finish with a 202 (69-65-68). Washington's Brock Mackenzie and Chris Marshall of Kansas tied for second with a tournament total of 208.

Washington picked up its fourth team championship of the 2001-02 season and set a Western Intercollegiate team scoring record in the process with an 834 total on the par 70, 6,445-yard Pasatiempo Golf Course. The previous record was 838 set by the 2000 Fresno State team.

Cal travels to Stanford on April 20-21 to compete in the U.S. Intercollegiate.
