Softball Heads North To Face Portland State In Doubleheader Wednesday

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon softball team will take a break from Pacific-10 Conference action when it heads north to face Portland State (11-20 overall, 3-5 WAC) in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Oregon (18-15, 0-6 Pac-10) is looking to break a six-game losing streak, in which it lost five of its six games by a total of six runs, including a 4-3 loss to No. 3 Stanford and a 3-2 loss to No. 6 California.
'We will certainly have to bring our 'A' game against Portland State,' Oregon head coach Brent Rincon said. 'They are a very good ball club and we will need to continue to compete at a high level.'
Following the doubleheader with the Vikings, Oregon will return to Pac-10 action Friday, hosting No. 8 Arizona State at 2 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the Ducks will entertain top-ranked Arizona at Howe Field. Saturday's game begins at 2 p.m. and Sunday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Junior Andrea Vidlund is currently leading the Ducks offensively, hitting .375 while three other players are also hitting above .300. Vidlund has a team high seven home runs and 32 RBI. Defensively, sophomore Anissa Meashintubby continues to shine, posting a team-low 1.91 ERA and a 7-3 record.
Portland State is led by Nichole Ivie (.325) and Monica Martell (.313) while pitcher Morgan Seibert (8-9) leads the team with a 2.06 ERA.
