PULLMAN, Wash. -- Justin Bellegarde from Mendocino College in Ukiah, Calif., will transfer to Washington State and play basketball next fall, WSU Head Coach Paul Graham announced Friday.
Bellegarde, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound power forward, averaged 21.1 points and 11.3 rebounds last season for Mendocino. He shot 57-percent from the field and earned All-Bay Valley Conference honors.
'Justin gives us what we are lacking and that is a big physical presence on the inside,' Graham said. His ability to score and defend at the power forward position will compliment our returning interior players Shami Gill, Milton Riley and Pawel Stasiak.'
Bellegarde chose Washington State over several schools, including Oregon, St. Louis and Tulsa.
He finished his sophomore campaign with 654 points, second on the Mendocino single season list and scored 1,020 points in his career, fourth all-time for the Eagles.
Mendocino Head Coach Ed Boyle added, 'The best part of Justin's game is he can really run. He works very hard and gets better each day. He is aggressive and will be a real eye opener in the Pac-10.'
