April 14, 2002
STANFORD, Calif. - -
Stacie Ferguson led the Oregon State women's golf team with a tie for 21st at Stanford's Peg Barnard Collegiate, as the Beavers wrapped up their regular season competition on Sunday in a tie for 11th with a score of 639.
Ferguson closed with a 78 on Sunday at the par-72 Stanford Golf Course, giving her a total of 9-over-par 153 for the 36-hole tournament. Ferguson's tie for 21st marked the third time this year the junior has finished 21st or better, and is her seventh career top-25 finish.
OSU, which finished tied with Long Beach State after a 322 on Sunday, begins postseason play next Monday, as the Pacific-10 Conference Championships get underway April 22-24 in Walla Walla, Washington.
Freshman Alex Lucio put together a career-best finish, as she totaled a 155 for the tournament after carding an 81 in the final round to tie for 30th. Her previous best was a tie for 43rd at the recent Duck Invitational.
Lucio, who carded a career-best 74 Saturday, played as an individual however, and her score did not count toward the team's total.
Kelly Ferris, a sophomore from Albany, Ore., turned in the highest finish of her career as well, finishing tied for 40th with a 158.
In the team championship, Washington secured a six-stroke win with an 8-over 296 on Sunday to beat out California, while USC's Mikaela Parmlid used a 70 to move atop the leaderboard with a 1-under 143 and earn a two-shot win over Stanford's Kim Rowton.
