No. 7 Stanford Women's Crew Upsets No. 4 California

Redwood Shores, Calif. - The Stanford Varsity Women's eight pulled off an upset victory today over California. On perfect conditions, the Cardinal took a half-second lead at the 500-meter mark and steadily increased their margin to a 3.6 second victory. The last Cardinal victory over the Bears was in 1996.

The next races belonged to the Bears as the Stanford novice were defeated by 7.2 seconds, the second varsity by 13 seconds and the varsity 'A' four by 36 seconds. Four athletes from the Stanford novice eight doubled into the varsity 'B' four and defeated the Bears by a 15.3 second margin.

Next up for the Cardinal Women's Crew is Kansas and Oregon State at Redwood Shores next Saturday. The racing begins at 9:00am.
