Cougar Tennis Beats Idaho 6-1
April 17, 2002
Pullman, Wash. -- The No. 30 Washington State women's tennis team finished Wednesday what it started Tuesday as the Cougars got back on track with a dominating 6-1 victory over border rival Idaho at the Stadium Way Tennis Center.
Wind and rain after Tuesday's doubles matches forced the match to be continued Wednesday. The Cougars picked up where they left off and never missed a beat by winning 5 of 6 singles matches.
Perkins, a senior playing her last home match for the Cougars, beat Senci 6-1, 6-1 Wednesday to finish her final home match in winning fashion.
'Erica has provided leadership for us for four years,' WSU Head Coach Cari Groce said. 'She has set a standard that our younger players will have to live up to in the future.'
'It was fun to have a home crowd for the last time,' Perkins said. 'It was nice to go out with both a singles and a doubles win.'
McKenna, ranked 95th in the nation, beat Pooja Deshmukh 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
'I think Idaho is a much improved team this year,' Groce said. 'We had to play really well to win today.'
WSU closes out its regular season with an 11 a.m. match, Sunday April 21 at conference rival Oregon.
