Kenyon and Pappas Open Action in Mt. SAC Relays Hep/Dec

AZUSA, Calif. - University of Oregon seniors Jenny Kenyon and Billy Pappas opened action in the Ducks' busiest weekend of track and field action, with solid starts in the California Invitational Heptathlon and Mt. SAC Relays Decathlon, respectively.

In Azusa Pacific University-hosted heptathlon, Kenyon ranked third overall after four events with 3,032 points. The three-time Pac-10 scorer posted first-day marks of 14.56 in the 100 hurdles, 5-2 1/4 in the high jump, 36-5 in the shot put and 25.78 in the 200.

Idaho State's Jackie Poulson leads the 28-woman field, ahead of Utah's Brianne Allen (second, 3,052), Kenyon (third, 3,032) and Idaho's Dacia Fernandez (fourth, 2,945).

Pappas stood 11th with 3,647 points in an all-star field in the Mt. SAC Relays decathlon. The All-American from Azalea, Ore., native posted first-day marks of 11.51 in the 100, 21-7 1/2 in the long jump, 45-4 1/4 in the shot put, 6-2 1/4 in the high jump and 51.27 in the 400.

Overall in the 14-person field, Michigan State All-American Paul Terek holds a one-point lead (4,020) over Oakley's Andy Giesler (second, 4,019), followed by OTC Elite's Chad Smith (third, 3,941) and Sweden's Michael Hoffer (fourth, 3,917).

Looking ahead to Friday, Kenyon and Pappas return for second-day action, while the Duck men's and women's teams compete in the Mt. SAC Relays and Pomona Pitzer Invite.
