April 19, 2002
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 14 ranked Oregon State softball squad dropped its Friday afternoon contest to No. 2 UCLA, 7-0.
A wild first inning of action saw the Bruins (38-6, 6-3 Pac-10) capitalize on two Oregon State (32-14, 5-5 Pac-10) errors, a pair of hits and a batter hit by a pitch to score three runs in the opening inning.
OSU starting pitcher Kristen Hunter threw 49 pitches in the frame as the Bruins batted through the line-up. Stacey Nuveman's two-RBI single to right-center field got UCLA on the board first. The Bruins added another run when Crissy Buck battled Hunter for 14 pitches before getting plunked with the bases loaded.
UCLA added two more runs in the second when Tairia Mims blasted a shot over the center field wall that also plated Amanda Freed who had doubled.
The Beavers were unable to get things going offensively from the plate as UCLA hurler Keira Goerl had a no-hitter going through 6.1 innings.
Kelly Petersen's sixth inning infield single to second base proved to be OSU's lone hit of the contest.
Nuveman's two-run shot over the center field fence in the fourth inning pushed the Bruins' lead to 7-0.
Oregon State heads to University of Washington for a Saturday contest against the Huskies. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net.
