April 20, 2002
WALNUT, Calif. - University of Oregon freshman Katie McKeever raised her personal best in the discus for the second straight day, and led the Ducks in Saturday's action in the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Woodland, Calif., native recorded a two-foot personal best and NCAA provisional mark of 169-9 to finish second in her section of the discus. The mark also moves her into eighth place all-time for the Ducks.
She had opened the trip to LA Thursday with her first-ever NCAA provisional mark (167-5) in the Pomona Pitzer Invite, as both marks easily eclipsed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 164-0.
On the track, redshirt junior Carrie Zografos (second, 4:26.98) and redshirt freshman Laura Harmon (sixth, 4:29.49) ran 1,500-meter personal bests of eight and five seconds, respectively, and easily met the Pac-10 qualifying standard of 4:40.14.
Other Duck women's entries included a pair of high jumpers - junior Jenny Brogdon (sixth, 5-6) and sophomore Rachael Kriz (11th-tie, 5-4 1/4). In a late section of Friday's javelin, junior Charyl Weingarten took third (145-11)
Up the road in the nearby Long Beach Invitational, sophomore Annette Mosey won her section of the 1,500 (4:38.22) with a time less than two seconds off her season best from last weekend's UW Dual (4:35.78).
Also at Long Beach, freshman Clarice Hayward-Lee withdrew from the triple jump after her second leap (36-1), and sophomore Ann Sullivan did not compete in the 100 hurdles. Results from the women's hammer were not available.
The Duck men and women return for final day action in the Mt. SAC Relays, Sunday.
