Day Two of Mt. SAC Relays Brings More Success for the Wildcat Track and Field Teams

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Arizona's men's and women's track and field teams continued competition at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Saturday, April 20. In men's competition, two athletes improved their Pac-10-qualifying marks. On the women's side, one Wildcat earned a spot in the Pac-10 Championships.
Saturday's competition was filled with several field events and the 'middle-distance carnival' held later in the evening. During the carnival, Cara Cline earned a Pac-10-qualifying time in the 800m with a time of 2:09.26. She placed third in her heat. Teammate Danielle Price wasn't even a second behind, finishing fourth in 2:09.91. On the men's side, Aaron Powell finished third in his heat of the 800m with a time of 1:53.09. In the 400m, Matt Lea improved his Pac-10-qualifying time to 47.08. He finished second in his heat. Adrain Thomas finished eighth in his heat of the 400m with a time of 49.24.
In the field events, Sean Shields improved his Pac-10-qualifying mark in the discus to 176-5 (53.78m). He finished sixth in his flight. Chris Chappell finished tied for third in the pole vault after a leap of 16-10 ï¿½ (5.15m). J.R. Harrison placed seventh in his flight of the long jump. He finished with a best leap of 21-10 ï¿½ (6.66m).
The Wildcats will finish up competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Sunday evening. The Wildcats will return to action next weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
