Arizona Gymnastics Adds Another Top Recruit for 2003
Tucson, Ariz. (April 24) - The University of Arizona women's gymnastics head coach Bill Ryden announced that Erin Muirhead has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the Arizona gymnastics program for the 2002-03 season. Muirhead becomes the third gymnastics signee for the 2003 season.
'All of the gymnasts who will join us next season will come in and have an immediate impact,' Ryden said. 'Each gymnast will improve the depth our team will have in each event and all have the potential to make us a better program.'
Erin Muirhead enters the Arizona gymnastics program from New Brunswick, N.J., where she was a member of TNT Gymnastics coached by Todd Weiss. Muirhead, a Level 10 competitor, is a seven-time regional qualifier and a two-time national qualifier. She was named the 2000 New Jersey state champion on vault, and the 1996 state champion on floor. At the 2002 Regional Championships, Muirhead placed third on vault, second on beam and second in the all-around, earning a berth to the Junior Olympic National Championships on May 3-5, in Landover, Md.
During the fall signing period, Arizona inked two other student athletes for the 2003 season.
'With the addition of our new recruits, I think our team will become better next year because we will be more experienced,' Ryden said. 'Our team will be better able to prepare physically and mentally. Reaching nationals this year has fueled the desire of our team to do even more next year.'
The Wildcats finished the 2002 season with an overall record of 19-13 and placed 11th at the 2002 National Championships.
