Baseball Wins Sixth Straight, 11-7

LOS ANGELES - Joey Metropoulos and Travis McAndrews had three hits each Wednesday and the USC Trojans defeated the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 11-7, in non-conference action at Dedeaux Field. After UCSB scored one run in the first, USC scored four in the bottom of the first and did not relinquish the lead.
USC improves to 26-16 overall while UC Santa Barbara falls to 16-25 on the season. The Trojans have won a season-high six straight games, as well as 14 of their last 17 games.
Bill Peavey walked with the bases loaded in the first to tie the game at 1-1. Metropoulos followed with an RBI single off the left field wall. Anthony Lunetta hit a sacrifice fly to right and McAndrews ended the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
Peavey went 1-for-3 with a walk, sacrifice fly and three RBI to push his team-high hitting streak to 16 games.
Metropoulos finished the night with a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI while McAndrews went 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Matt Wilkerson hit a three-run homer to left center for UC Santa Barbara in the sixth, his 11th of the season.
The Trojans will host Arizona in a Pac-10 Conference series beginning on Friday (April 26) at 6 p.m. with 1 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live, along with Live Stats play-by-play, on www.usctrojans.com.
