HOME COOKIN' FOR COUGS:
The Third Annual Cougar Invitational Track & Field Meets are on the schedule for this weekend at the Mooberry Track Complex on the Washington State University campus...Friday, April 26, over 350 collegiate and elite athletes from throughout the Northwest and Canada will compete...field events begin at 10 a.m. with the first running event set for 1 p.m...the High School invitational takes place Saturday, April 27, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events slated to start at 12:30 p.m...approximately 500 prep competitors from 42 different high schools representing Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada will participate...the Cougar Invite High School Meet provides the unique aspect of small school athletes competing in the same events as larger school athletes with a fully automated timing system and metric measures...the list declared list of athletes will be available on the Cougar Track home page at www.wsucougars.com...results will also be posted at this site.
HENRY EARNS PAC-10 MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Senior sprinter Anson Henry (Pickering, Ontario, Canada) was named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Mt. SAC Relays...Henry won the 100m dash in a school record time of 10.17 seconds, bettered his NCAA provisional qualifying in the 200m dash with a time of 20.85, and ran the second leg of the winning 4x100m relay (40.00).
ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES:
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 29th season with the Cougar track program (eighth year as a head coach, seventh year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program)...Sloan, was selected the United States Track Coaches Association West Region Men's Coach of the Year for the 2002 indoor season...this is the second consecutive year Sloan has been named the men's coach of the year...he was honored as the regional women's coach of the year for both 1999 and 2000...Sloan is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Dr. James Li, Mark Macdonald, Kris Grimes, and Francesca Green...volunteer coaches are Dan O'Brien and Bernard Lagat.
