No. 16 Softball Upsets No. 5 Arizona State, 2-0
April 26, 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 16 ranked Oregon State softball team used four hits in the seventh inning to score a pair of runs and upset No. 5 Arizona State, 2-0, on Friday night.
Traci Feldt's one-out single to center field in the seventh inning helped the Beavers (35-16; 6-7 Pac-10) add the only run that they needed against the Sun Devils (37-12; 7-5 Pac-10).
Junior second baseman Brynnen Guthrie led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Feldt took an 0-2 pitch into shallow center field and it was misplayed by ASU centerfielder Kristin Farber, allowing Guthrie to round the bases and score.OSU added an insurance run when Steph Adams hit a ball to deep shortstop that scored pinch runner Miranda Dellinger.
Senior Michelle Chariton extended her hitting streak to five games after an infield single in the first inning, while Guthrie has also hit safely in five straight after her leadoff single in the seventh.
The Beavers tallied four of their seven hits in the contest in the final inning and held ASU to just four hits on the night.
Oregon State continues its road-swing against University of Arizona on Saturday. The Beavers and No. 2 ranked Wildcats meet at 7 p.m. in Tucson.
