No. 23 USC Defeats Baseall, 14-6

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-The 23rd-ranked USC baseball team rapped out 16 hits en route to a 14-6 victory over the Wildcats at Dedeaux Field on Friday. The loss drops Arizona's record to 27-17 for the season and 5-8 in the Pac-10. The Trojans improve to 27-16 and a conference best 10-3 in Pac-10 play.
The Trojans scored one in the first, four in the third and three in the fifth to jump out to a 8-1 lead. The Wildcats closed to within four with a three-run sixth, but USC answered with four in the bottom of the inning to pull away to a 12-4 lead.
USC's Alberto Concepcion and Joey Metropoulos provided all the offense the Trojans needed as the pair combined to go 8 for 10 with seven RBIs and five runs scored. Each player tallied two singles, a double and a home run in the game off of four different Arizona pitchers.
Arizona starter Sean Rierson (7-3) was charged with his third loss of the season, giving up eight runs on 10 hits in five innings of work. USC ace Anthony Reyes picked up the win to improve to 3-0. He struck out six Wildcat hitters and walked none in seven innings.
Offensively for Arizona, Chris Cunningham continued his hot hitting in the loss. The senior backstop finished the game 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. He hit his team-leading 10th home run in the top of the eighth. Freshmen John Hardy and Jeff Van Houten each paired hits in the game for the Wildcats.
The two schools will play the second game of the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. UA's Marc Kaiser will face off against Matt Chico on the mound. KNST will broadcast the game live on 790 AM and on the Internet at www.knst.com.
