Whittington, D'Artenay Lead Bears in Hammer at Cal Open

BERKELEY - Cal junior Zech Whittington threw a personal best of 175-9 to finish second in the hammer throw in the only event Friday at the Cal Open at Edwards Stadium. Redshirt freshman Tammy d'Artenay led the Bear women, placing fourth with a near PR of 154-5.

San Francisco State's Devin Conroy took top honors in the men's competition with a heave of 178-8. Stanford's Jessica Pluth grabbed first on the women's side at 192-11, and UC Davis' Cassidy Kilborn was a distant second at 168-4.

Also for Cal, sophomore Tony Miranda placed third with a PR of 153-1, bettering his previous best by almost 11 feet. Freshman Jennifer Ladouceur finished seventh with a PR of 149-10.

The non-scored Cal Open concludes tomorrow with a full slate of events beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the women's javelin. Admission is free for all spectators.
