QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH DENNIS ERICKSON

On Adam Rothenfluh's play

'I thought Adam played really well today. We have been looking for somebody to be the second quarterback -- he really stepped up this spring and did a great job.'

On the secondary ...

'I thought the secondary played very well -- we have made a lot of improvement in that area. We were pretty strong with our corners returning (Dennis Weathersby & Terrell Roberts), and I'm encouraged by the way Lawrence Turner and Brandon Catenese have emerged at the safety positions. The secondary has had a great spring.'

On the play of James Newson ...

'It's still a game to James, and that is the way it is suppose to be. It's fun to see him jump up and down - he's not a real good dancer, but he's getting better.'

On the play of the offense overall ...

'We obviously have to get better. We have to determine what our offensive front is going to look like, they were split up today, but we have six or seven guys who need to gel into a solid unit. Obviously Derek (Anderson) didn't have a good day today, so he needs to improve, but he had some passes dropped as well. It's a learning process for our young quarterbacks.'

Overall comments about the spring session ...

'It was a great spring for Oregon State football. We made a lot of improvement from the start earlier this month to this scrimmage, and that is what you really look for. I think we're tired of hitting each other, so it's time to start preparing for a real game - when you beat on each other every day it gets a little old. Overall, I thought the team stayed focus all spring.'
