Gabriela Lastra Captures Singles Title At Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - Senior No. 10 Gabriela Lastra (Reno, Nev.) defeated USC's No. 7 Jewel Peterson 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at the 2002 Pac-10 Women's Tennis Championships, claiming the singles main draw title.
Lastra, who advanced to Sunday's championship match by defeating teammate Erin Burdette (Jackson, Ga.) 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in the semifinals, has now won 14 consecutive matches.
One Cardinal doubles team was in action on Sunday afternoon, as the duo of Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, Wash.) captured the championship of the invitational doubles draw. Anderson/Tweedie-Yates registered a 9-8 victory over Washington's Erin Hoe and Ilona Kordonskaya in the final match.
NCAA First and Second Round competition begins Friday, May 10, at various campus sites around the nation. Stanford University's Taube Family Tennis Stadium will be the host site for the 2002 NCAA Women's Tennis National Championships, which get underway Thursday, May 16, with team competition.
