USC'S KEVIN STADLER NAMED GOLFER OF THE YEAR;
USC'S BEN HAYES NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR;
WASHINGTON STATE'S WILLIAMS NAMED PAC-10 COACH OF THE YEAR

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Kevin Stadler of USC has been named Pac-10 Golfer of the Year, Ben Hayes of USC has been named Freshman of the Year and Washington State's Walt Williams has been named Pac-10 Coach of the Year, in voting by the Pac-10 men's golf coaches.

Stadler, a senior from Englewood, Colo., led the Trojans to their second consecutive Pac-10 men's golf title April 25-27 at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. He shot a 3-under par 285 to tie for second place as USC won by 15 strokes (1441) over second-place Stanford (1456). It marks Stadler's sixth Top-5 finish this season and his fourth time in the runner-up spot. He leads USC with a stroke average of 71.25 and is ranked 14th in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Index, the highest-ranked Pac-10 golfer.

Hayes, from Paradise Valley, Ariz., fired a final-round 69 to lead USC to a 4-under-par 356 in the fourth and final round of the 2002 Pac-10 Tournament. Hayes shot a 2-under 286 to tie for fourth place, matching his best finish on the season. His other fourth-place finish came at the Clevland Golf Classic (Mar. 4-5). Hayes has posted three additional Top-25 finishes in his freshman year and received All-Pac-10 honorable mention recognition.

Williams directed Washington State to Top-5 finishes in 11 of its 13 tournaments this season. The Cougars look to secure their first NCAA Regional appearance in school history when seedings are announced later this week. Under Williams' tutelage, Washington State spent most of the season ranked among the Top-30 teams in the nation. Along with their No. 17 position in the latest Golfstat rankings the Cougars are No. 26 in the Precept Coaches' poll and No. 28 in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll.

The Pac-10 golf awards and the All-Pac-10 Team are voted on by the Conference head golf coaches. Following is the complete list of honors:
