USC Track And Field Signs Two For 2003

May 2, 2002

The USC track and field program signed Garry Jones of Sklyline High in Oakland and Virginia Powell of Rainier Beach High in Seattle to letters of intent, Trojan coach Ron Allice announced today.

Both athletes will enroll at USC in the fall of 2002 and will compete for the Trojans in the spring of 2003.

Jones is the current owner of the second-fastest prep 100-meter time in the nation (and tops in California) after running a 10.45 at the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif., in early April. He also ran 10.55 at the Arcadia meet.

Powell's personal best of 13.39 as a junior was the third-fastest prep 100-meter hurdle time in the nation in 2001. This season, her best time of 13.87 is second in the nation to date.
