Cal to Play MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes in Exhibition

May 6, 2002

BERKELEY - The California men's soccer team is slated to face the 2001 Major League Soccer champion San Jose Earthquakes in an exhibition game Tuesday, May 7 at 3:30 p.m. on the West Valley College campus in Saratoga, Calif.

The game marks the second consecutive season the Golden Bears are facing the Earthquakes in an exhibition affair. Last year, the MLS team defeated Cal, 6-0, in Berkeley.

On Tuesday, the Bears go up against a familiar face in recently graduated Cal standout, Chris Roner. Roner was drafted by San Jose in the third round (33rd overall) of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft and is a part of the Earthquakes' 20-man active roster.

Fans are invited to check out the action for free at the field. West Valley College is located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga. From the East Bay, take the 880 South to 84 West/Dumbarton Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn left on Willow Road to 101 South. Merge on to 85 South and exit off of Saratoga Avenue and make a right. Then, make a left on Fruitvale Avenue.
