Mike Kunes Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior left-hander Mike Kunes has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week and Oregon State junior first baseman Andy Jarvis has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for April 29-May 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Kunes, from Chatsworth, Calif., threw a three-hit complete game in UCLA's 8-1 win at Washington. He allowed the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. He walked just one batter, while striking out a career-high seven. Kunes used just 93 pitches and faced only four batters over the minimum. The complete game was the first of Kunes' career. He leads the Bruins in ERA (3.70), innings pitched (73.0), strikeouts (60), wins (7) and appearances (22).
Jarvis, from Renton, Wash., batted .563 (9-for-16) in OSU1s sweep at Washington State. He also added three home runs and two doubles, scored six times and drove in 11 runs. Jarvis walked one time and did not strike out in any of the games against the Cougars. He notched multi-hits in each of the games against WSU, including a 3-for-5 effort with two homers and eight RBI in the series opener.
The Player of the Week honor is the second for Jarvis in his career. It is the 47th selection all-time for Oregon State. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Kunes in his career, and the 32nd selection all-time for UCLA.
