After winning two of three games against UCLA last weekend, WASHINGTON is just one game back of Pac-10 leader USC. The Trojans host the Huskies this weekend in a pivotal series for both teams ... STANFORD swept CALIFORNIA last weekend and moved up a few spots in the polls. The Cardinal is now ranked highest at No. 7 by Baseball America and Baseball Weekly, while Collegiate Baseball ranks the team at No. 9 ... USC remains ranked No. 20 by Baseball America and fell to No. 18 and No. 25 respectively in the Collegiate Baseball and Baseball Weekly polls ... ARIZONA STATE is ranked No. 19 by Baseball Weekly.

Several teams return to Conference play this week as the Sun Devils play at Stanford, ARIZONA hosts UCLA and OREGON STATE visits Cal ... WASHINGTON STATE takes a break from league action to play its final non-conference series of the year against Lewis-Clark state ... Midweek match-ups include the Cardinal playing at Santa Clara, Long Beach State at UCLA and Portland at Washington.

2002 TEAM NOTESARIZONA (28-18, 6-9)
Last Week: no games This Week: *UCLAArizona played no games last week in preparation for finals ... The Wildcats will host UCLA this weekend. Last year the 'Cats took two of three games from the Bruins in Los Angeles ... Arizona has only nine games left in the regular season; three series against Pac-10 teams ... Arizona ranks third in the Pac-10 in pitching with a 4.90 team ERA. SO RHP Sean Rierson leads the team with a 7-3 record and is tied with SO LHP Joe Little for most strikeouts on the team with 67. Rierson ranks ninth in the league with a 4.10 ERA and is second in the Conference with 96.2 innings pitched and batters struck out looking (30) ... In Pac-10 only games, SR SS Brad Hassey ranks seventh in the league with a .420 batting average. He ranks third with 29 hits in Conference contests. Hassey leads the 'Cats with a .330 overall batting average and 66 hits ... SR C Chris Cunningham ranks fourth in the Conference with 50 RBI and is tied for eighth with 26 walks.

ARIZONA STATE (27-16, 9-6)
Last Week: New Mexico State W 14-2 This Week: *at StanfordArizona State played one game against New Mexico State last week and took the weekend off in preparation for finals ... ASU's 14-2 win over the Aggies saw SO RHP Mike Esposito notch his third double-digit strikeout performance this season. Esposito scattered three hits and did not allow an earned run while striking out 11 batters ... FR RF Nick Cadena also logged a stellar performance against New Mexico State as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. He played in place of regular starter Andre Ethier ... The Sun Devils are hanging onto a .303 team batting average, which ranks fifth in the Pac-10. The team ranks second in team pitching with a 4.36 ERA ... With 11 games left on their regular season slate, the Sun Devils play a key series at Stanford this weekend.

CALIFORNIA (26-26, 8-13)
Last Week: at San Francisco L 7-8 (11), at Stanford L 4-8, 6-13, 5-8 This Week: *Oregon StateCalifornia is struggling after being swept by a Pac-10 opponent for the second consecutive time ... After losing three straight games to rival Stanford, the Golden Bears are now on a season-high seven-game losing streak. The last time the Bears lost this many games in a row was the 1998 season ... Cal was able to play well against the Cardinal in the early innings, but seemed to come unglued at the end of the games, as Bear pitchers gave up a total of eight runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings ... SO 1B Conor Jackson continues to lead the league in hits (76), RBI (59), total bases (141) and is tied for first with 16 home runs. He is ninth in the Pac-10 with a .374 batting average, third in slugging percentage (.695), seventh in on-base percentage (.453) and tied for eighth in walks (26) ... At an even 26-26 on the season, Cal has four games left to try and end the regular season with an above .500 record ... The Bears will host Oregon State in its final Pac-10 series of the year this weekend.

OREGON STATE (30-15, 9-6)
Last Week: at Washington State W 18-1, 10-6, 22-21 This Week: *at CaliforniaOregon State recorded its first Pac-10 series sweep of the season at Washington State last weekend. The Beavers have now won three of the five Pac-10 series they have played in this year ... OSU has won 11 of its last 14 games ... The final games of the OSU-WSU series was quite a battle as the teams combined for 41 hits, including 14 doubles, eight home runs and committed 10 errors. The Beavers pulled out the 22-21 win ... JR 1B Andy Jarvis did well at the plate against WSU, batting .563 (9-for-16) with three home runs and two doubles. He also scored six times and drove in 11 runs and was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for his effort ... In addition to its high offense, OSU got another strong performance on the mound from SO RHP Ben Rowe. Rowe scattered nine hits and allowed just one run while recording two strikeouts. In his last 20 innings of work, Rowe has allowed just two runs ... With 25 triples on the season, OSU has set the school record, besting the former record of 20 in a season set in 1983 and tied in 1997. The Beavers are also close to setting a new school record for saves in a season. The Beavers currently have 13 saves which ties the record set in 1990 ... The Beavers head down to Berkeley to take on Cal this weekend.

STANFORD (32-13, 9-6)
Last Week: at San Jose State L 0-12, California W 8-4, 13-6, 8-5 This Week: at Santa Clara, *Arizona StateAfter a weekend sweep over California, Stanford finds itself back in the Pac-10 race as it shares a three-way tie for third place ... The Cardinal finished the season series with five wins in six games against Cal ... Stanford has 16 comeback wins on the season ... JR RHP Jeremy Guthrie tossed a complete game six-hitter and struck out a season-high 10 batters in his effort against Cal to win the series opener. Guthrie is 7-1 on the season with a 2.90 ERA and team high 88 K's in 96.1 innings pitched ... SO RHP John Hudgins also pitched well, improving to 8-0 on the season with an 8-5 win over Cal in the series finale. He allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out four ... SO OF Sam Fuld is on a hot streak and has 12 multi-hit performances in his last 13 games. Against Cal he hit .600 (9-for-15) with two homers. He also swiped three bases, scored seven times and drove in four runs ... Despite an 0-12 loss to San Jose State early last week, the Cardinal has outscored its opponents 365-223 and has scored five or more runs in an inning 20 times this season ... Stanford plays at Santa Clara in a midweek game and hosts ASU this weekend. The Cardinal is 19-3 at Sunken Diamond this year.

UCLA (21-28, 6-9)
Last Week: at UC Santa Barbara W 18-13, at Washington W 8-1, L 4-5, 5-9 This Week: Long Beach State, *at ArizonaUCLA won and lost two games apiece last week. The Bruins recorded a midweek victory over UC Santa Barbara and won its series opener at Washington before losing the next two contests against the Huskies ... The Bruins had their best offensive output of the season in their game against the Gauchos, knocking out 23 hits, including six doubles, two triples and three home runs. SR CF Rashad Parker went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI, while SR 2B Ryan Rasmussen recorded a career-high four hits with three runs scored ... JR LHP Mike Kunes earned his first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor. He threw a three-hit complete game in UCLA's 8-1 win at Washington. He allowed the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. He walked just one batter, while striking out a career-high seven. The complete game was the first of Kunes' career ... UCLA has three complete game victories on the season. In all three complete games, the pitcher gave up just one run, which were all solo homers ... Next up for the Bruins is a midweek game against Long Beach State before heading to Tucson to take on Arizona.

USC (28-18, 11-4)
Last Week: Pepperdine L 1-7 This Week: *WashingtonUSC lost a midweek game to Pepperdine before taking last weekend off in preparation for finals. The Trojans have lost two in a row after being on an eight-game winning streak ... The Trojans scored just one run against the Waves, snapping their double digit scoring streak, which spanned a school-record eight games ... USC has a key series this weekend when it hosts Washington. After taking two of three games from UCLA last weekend, the Huskies stand just one game back of USC in the Pac-10 standings ... USC continues to lead the league with a .328 batting average and boasts having two of its players lead the Conference in hitting. JR C Alberto Concepcion (.407) and FR DH Joey Metropoulos (.383) are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. Concepcion also ranks among Pac-10 leaders in slugging percentage (.721, 1st), on-base percentage (.505, 2nd), runs (48, 4th), hits (70, t4th), doubles (16, t3rd), triples (4, t3rd) and total bases (124, 2nd). Metropoulos ranks in slugging percentage (.707, 2nd), on-base percentage (.491, 3rd) and walks (29, t4th).

WASHINGTON (22-20-1, 10-5)
Last Week: UCLA L 1-8, W 5-4, 9-5 This Week: Portland, *at USCWashington won two of three games against UCLA at home to move within one game of first place in the Conference standings. The Huskies will play a key match-up against league leader USC in Los Angeles this weekend ... The Huskies have now won six of their last seven games and nine of their last 12 ... Despite batting for a lower average (.255 to .294) than UCLA and pitching at a higher ERA (5.33 to 4.97), UW pulled away with the Conference series. UCLA pitchers walked 10 Husky batters compared to Washington's four free passes to Bruin batters ... Since losing seven straight games in early April, the Huskies have gone 10-5 and have committed only 10 errors in that stretch for a .984 fielding percentage. UW pitchers have given up just 25 walks in that span (138 innings), while Husky hitters have walked 62 times ... SO 2B Greg Issacson is performing well against league opponents, batting .364 with 11 RBI and six stolen bases in Pac-10 play.

WASHINGTON STATE (18-27, 4-14)
Last Week: Gonzaga W 12-9, Oregon State L 1-18, 6-10, 21-22 This Week: Lewis-Clark StateWashington State won a midweek game against Gonzaga before being swept by Oregon State at home. The Cougars have been swept by a Pac-10 opponent three times this season ... WSU had won three straight games prior to the losses to the Beavers ... In Pac-10 play WSU ranks third with a .321 batting average, but is last in pitching with a 9.34 ERA ... JR 3B Jeff LaRue leads the Cougars with a .382 batting average. He has the second most total bases (48) of anyone in Pac-10 play ... SR 2B Bookie Gates went 5-for-13 (.385) in his return to the lineup. He had been out with a hamstring injury ... WSU finishes their homestand with two games this weekend against Lewis-Clark State.
