Prior Gets Curtain Calls In Triple-A Debut
May 7, 2002
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Former USC pitcher Mark Prior made a steller debut Tuesday for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs in a 6-1 victory over Tucson. Prior, who was the No. 2 overall selection in last year's draft by the Cubs, struck out 10 batters in 7 2/3 innings and allowed only one unearned run on three hits and two walks. He also provided his own offense by hitting two solo home runs, both traveling more than 400 feet.
The hometown fans called for curtain calls for Prior after each home run.
The 2001 Golden Spikes Award winner and National Player of the Year leads the minor leagues with 65 strikeouts in seven starts, including his six previous starts with the Double-A West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.
