Softball To End Regular Season In Bay Area

EUGENE -- The University of Oregon softball team will head to the bay area to wrap up conference play. Oregon (23-28 overall, 1-17 Pacific-10 conference) will face No. 5 California (45-19, 9-9) Friday at 2 p.m. before heading to No. 8 Stanford (40-16, 5-13) for a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.
Oregon junior Alyssa Laux currently leads Oregon with .329 average and is also tops with 47 hits. Two other players - Andrea Vidlund (.319) and Lindsey Kontra (.300) - are hitting above .300 for the season. Laux's is hitting .314 in conference play, which is 13th among all players in the conference. Both of Laux's home runs have come against Pac-10 pitchers, including a two-run shot that led the Ducks to victory over then-No. 5 Arizona State.
California is currently on a three game losing streak - its longest of the season - falling to No. 2 Arizona and twice to No. 4 Arizona State. Veronica Nelson leads the team with a .349 average and four Bears are hitting above .300. Pitcher Jocelyn Forest is 20-12 with a 1.25 ERA. Forest's 309 strike outs leads the conference and as a team, Cal is tops with 485 strike outs.
Stanford broke a nine game losing streak last Friday, defeating Arizona State in Tempe. The Cardinal are led by Jessica Mendoza and Sarah Beeson, who are hitting .386 and .384, respectively. Pitcher Tori Nyberg is 23-9 with a 1.47 ERA.
