Cal Wins Three Events at Cardinal Qualifer

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 22 California women's track and field team won three events to highlight the Golden Bears participation Friday at the Cardinal Qualifier at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Cal junior Leora Ward won the pole vault competition with a personal best NCAA provisional clearance of 13-0.25. She joins Maria Lopez as the only two Cal women's pole vaulters to clear at least 13 feet.
Sophomore Jenna Johnson claimed top honors in the shot put with a mark of 45-7.25, and her teammate, redshirt freshman Tammy d'Artenay, took second in 43-3.75.
The throws were the Cal men's strongest suit Friday. Junior Zech Whittington finished second in the hammer, bettering his previous PR by about eight feet with a heave of 183-10. Bear sophomore Tony Miranda placed second in the discus with a season-best mark of 166-2. Sophomore Amin Nikfar added a second-place finish in the shot (52-6.75) for Cal.
