BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Washington State tennis team dropped its NCAA First Round match to Fresno State, 4-0, Friday.

However, the Bulldogs captured the doubles point with wins by Lucia Tallo and Chloe Carlotti at No. 2 and Chantel Wiggings and Courtney Jantz at No. 3.
The Bulldogs clinched the match with singles wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5. Niggemeyer, No. 41 in singles knocked off No. 50 Perkins at No. 1, 7-6 (3), 6-1. 'Every match was a battle and well played,' WSU Head Coach Cari Groce said. 'We lost the doubles point and that was the big difference in a match where two teams were so even.'
Despite the 4-0 final, Washington State was leading in the three singles matches being played at the time the Bulldogs clinched the victory.
'All the credit goes to Fresno State, they outplayed us.' Groce said. 'I'm very pleased with the our play. We are so young and overachieved all year. The future of Cougar tennis is bright.'
Washington State, which made its fourth postseason appearance in the last five years, loses one senior in Perkins.
