Softball Caps 2002 Season With 4-0 Shut Out Over No. 8 Stanford
May 11, 2002
STANFORD, Calif. - Oregon senior Connie McMurren wasn't able to claim a victory in her final home appearance last weekend, but Oregon head coach Brent Rincon figured the senior still had a chance to go out on a high note. McMurren did just that, capping her collegiate career with a 4-0 shut out over the eighth-ranked Stanford Cardinal Saturday afternoon. After a difficult conference season, which the Ducks finished 2-19, the win gives the Ducks something positive to remember following the season.
'This is an amazing testament to this team,' Rincon said. 'They truly never gave up and were always ready to come out and win. They just were not going to be denied in the second game.'
McMurren's shut out was the 12th of her career, which puts her fourth all-time at Oregon. The Eugene native is also second all-time with 439 strike outs.
The win came in the second game of a doubleheader in which Stanford dominated in the first game, winning 10-1 in five innings.
