John Baker Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California junior catcher John Baker was named Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday, May 13 by the Pac-10. It is the fourth time this season a Golden Bear player has been named either Pac-10 Player or Pitcher of the Week as senior Trevor Hutchinson earned Pitcher of the Week honors Apr. 8, sophomore Matt Brown earned Pitcher of the Week honors Apr. 15 and sophomore Conor Jackson earned Player of the Week honors Apr. 22. It was the 34th Player of the Week selection all-time for Cal.
Last week, Baker was 7-for-12 with four runs, three walks, a double, a grand slam and seven RBI as the Bears swept Oregon State, May 10-12 at Evans Diamond. He currently leads the Bears with a .393 batting average and a Pac-10 leading .527 on-base percentage. Baker also batting a team-best .465 (20-for-43) with runners in scoring position and has a team-leading .456 batting average against Pac-10 competition. He is a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award as the nation's top collegiate catcher as well.
