Yarnes' Season Continues As He Heads To NCAA West Regional

TEEING OFF: Oregon State senior David Yarnes will play as an individual in the NCAA West Regional Championships. The field plays 54 holes total, with 18 holes each day from Thursday, May 16 - Saturday, May 18. Yarnes, who was the third individual selected among a group of six, tees off at 1:03 p.m. Thursday, and 9:00 or 9:09 a.m. the following two days, depending on his score. The top two individuals whose teams do not finish in the top 10 qualify for the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, May 29-June 1. Yarnes will be paired with UTEP's Chris Baryla and Ben Leestma of Air Force for the first round.

THE COURSE: The Championship Course at the University of New Mexico plays host to the West Regional. The layout plays to a long 7,368 yards and carries a par of 72.

THE FIELD: A total of 27 five-man teams and six individuals compete, forming a 141-man field. Eight of the teams are ranked in the Sagarin/Golfweek Top 25. The teams, in order of seed (Sagarin/Golfweek ranking in parentheses): 1. USC (7), 2. Texas (5), 3. Minnesota (23), 4. Fresno State (15), 5. Washington (14), 6. New Mexico (24), 7. Pepperdine (18), 8. San Diego State (26), 9. Arizona (21), 10. Nevada (45), 11. Oregon (29), 12. Ohio State (57), 13. UCLA (38), 14. Washington State (27), 15. Cal-Irvine (60), 16. Pacific (68), 17. UNLV (34), 18. Stanford (47), 19. Arizona State (43), 20. Texas Tech (49), 21. California (67), 22. BYU (53), 23. Colorado State (80), 24. Illinois State (104), 25. Detroit-Mercy (185), 26. IUPUI (176), 27. Central Connecticut State (213). The individuals, in order of selection, are Chris Baryla (UTEP), Ben Leestma (Air Force), David Yarnes (Oregon State), Brandon Hillpot (Cal Riverside), Mike Urbatchka (Wyoming), Eric Billinger (Denver).
