Baseball Falls, 2-1, In 11 Innings

LOS ANGELES - David Fischer hit a solo home run Wednesday in the top of the 11th inning and the No. 17 Cal State Fullerton Titans defeated the No. 19 USC Trojans, 2-1 in 11 innings, at Dedeaux Field in non-conference action.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 35-17 on the season while USC fell to 30-20 overall.
The Titans scored first in the fifth when Justin Smyres' sacrifice fly scored Chris Klosterman. Cal State Fullerton, who is not playing this weekend, used No. 1 pitcher Wes Littleton to start the game. Littleton threw eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Titans' relief ace Chad Cordero entered the game in the ninth, but with runners at first and third and two outs, USC shortstop Michael Moon hit a chopper over first baseman Nick Fitzgerald's head to tie the game.
Fischer led off for the Titans in the 11th inning and hit his fourth home run of the season off Trojan reliever Cory Campos (4-2). With a runner at second and two outs in the bottom of the 11th, Jordan DeJong (10-3) struck out Brian Barre to end the game.
USC will travel to Arizona State for an important Pac-10 Conference series, beginning on Friday (May 17) at 6 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday (May 18) at 6 p.m. and Sunday (May 19) at 1 p.m. The Trojans are in first place in the conference, two games ahead of Stanford and Washington with two weeks remaining in the season.
