Arizona Gymnast Named to Verizon Academic All-District VIII Team

TUCSON, Ariz.-Arizona senior gymnast Lindsay Compitello has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large Third Team, it was announced Thursday.
Compitello, a senior from Downington, Penn., was a member of a squad that made its 16th consecutive postseason appearance and advanced to the National Championships for the first time since 1996. Compitello helped the team finish with a No. 11 national ranking and a record of 19-13.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school.
Majoring in communication, Compitello has a grade point average of 3.747. She will now be on the national Verizon Women's At-Large Academic All-America ballot. District VIII includes universities in the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
