Jessica Mendoza, Sarah Beeson and Kira Ching Named All-Region For Softball

STANFORD, Calif. - Three Stanford softball athletes have been named to the 2002 Division 1 All-Pacific Region squad. Senior outfielder Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) and junior second baseman Kira Ching (San Lorenzo, Calif.) were named to the First Team, while senior Sarah Beeson (Tucson, Ariz.) earned Second Team honors at first base.
All three athletes are now eligible to earn All-America honors.
Mendoza, recently named an All Pac-10 First Team selection for the fourth straight season, is hitting .375 with 64 runs, 17 doubles, 14 home runs and 44 RBI. She has started 61 of the team's 62 games and is 28-30 in the stolen base category. Mendoza is currently the all-time Cardinal leader in the following categories: batting average, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, runs scored and stolen bases.
Ching was tabbed as an All Pac-10 Honorable Mention honoree and has been one of Stanford's hottest hitters down the stretch. She has reached base safely in 11 of the last 13 games and is hitting .425 (17-40) with 10 runs scored, 19 RBI and four home runs over that stretch. Ching, who has set career highs in batting average, runs and home runs this season, is hitting at a .331 clip overall with 35 runs scored, 10 homers and 46 RBI.
Beeson was named an All Pac-10 First Team selection for the second consecutive year. She currently leads the club with a .390 batting average and a .488 slugging percentage. She has totaled 67 hits, 13 doubles and 45 RBI in her senior year. An Academic All-District VII awardee, Beeson has posted 16 multi-hit games and 13 multiple-RBI games this year.
Stanford continues NCAA Regional competition on Friday evening, when it takes on California at 5 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond on the campus of Fresno State.
