CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State had trouble closing out innings against Washington on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers suffered a 13-3 loss to the Huskies in Pacific-10 baseball at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. OSU (30-20 overall, 9-11 Pacific-10) saw the Huskies score 11 of their runs with two out before a crowd of 1,322.

The Beavers and Huskies (28-23-1, 13-7) wrap up their series Sunday at 1 p.m. The game can be heard on KLOO-AM (1340) and OSU's senior players will be honored prior to the game.

Oregon State's 1952 College World Series team was honored before Saturday's game. That Beaver squad, which is celebrating its 50th reunion this weekend, defeated Southern California for the Pacific Coast Conference title and Fresno State for the Far West Regional championship.

On hand for the weekend were Ralph Coleman Jr., son of head coach Ralph Coleman; assistant coach Paul Valenti; team captain and outfielder Pete Goodbrod; pitcher Bud Berg; pitcher Bailey Brem; infielder Bobby Buob; first baseman Jay Dean; pitcher Alex Goedhard; outfielder Dwane Helbig; infielder Cub Houck; outfielder Ed Nelson; infielder Jim Ruggles; outfielder Bud Shirtcliff; pitcher Norb Wellman; and manager Ken Boshears.

Oregon State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Wick Udy led off with a homer to rightfield to start the inning; the Beavers then loaded the bases with none out and tacked on another run with Will Hudson's sacrifice fly.

Washington tied the game in the top of the third. The Huskies went in front 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning on Michael Done's two-run homer; Done added another two-run homer and Taylor Johnson tacked on a two-run single in Washington's four-run sixth inning that made it 8-2.

Jason McBride was 2-for-3 for the Beavers. Stephen Copeland took the loss, falling to 5-2 as he pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two.

For Washington, Sean White earned the win to improve to 5-2; he went 7 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three. Johnson and Taylor Davidson were both 3-for-5 while Done was 2-for-4 with the two homers and four RBIs.
