Perkins Drops First Round NCAA Singles Match

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State senior Erica Perkins (Seattle) lost her first round match, 6-3, 6-2 to Tulsa's Alicia Pillay at the NCAA Tennis Individual Singles Championships, Tuesday.
Pillay, No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, led 5-3 in the first set when rain suspended the match Monday. When the match resumed Tuesday, Pillay won seven of nine games to close out Perkins, NO. 50 in the ITA poll.
The loss ended Perkins' singles career. She leaves as the Washington State record holder with 87 career singles victories and three NCAA Individual Singles Championships. She is the only Cougar to play in the NCAA Singles Championships.
Perkins will team with sophomore Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) in the NCAA Individual Doubles Championships. The duo, will play Stanford's top ranked duo of Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra, Wednesday at 3 p.m.
