Wildcat Track & Field Waits for Final NCAA Lists

TUCSON, Ariz. - Several of the Arizona track and field athletes must wait until Monday, May 27 for the finalized lists of competitors for the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Wildcats have a total of 13 athletes qualified for the national championships, which will be held in Baton Rouge, La. from Wednesday, May 19 through Saturday, June 1 at Louisiana State University. The final list of competitors will be announced Monday, May 27.
For the Wildcat women, Brianna Glenn has automatically qualified in the 200m and the long jump. Amy Linnen is an automatic qualifier in the pole vault, and Tara Chaplin automatically qualified for the 10,000m. Glenn also holds a provisional time in the 100m. Also holding provisional qualifying times or marks include: Kim Bates (10,000m), Tara Chaplin (5,000m), Julie DeMarni (javelin), Angela Foster (hammer throw), Beth Hoge (5,000m) and Alexandra Komnos (100m hurdles).
On the men's side, Mike Kenyon is the only automatic qualifier for the Wildcats. He will compete in the 400m. Five other Wildcats earned provisional qualifying marks, including Jeff Hunter (400m hurdles), Richard Legarra (shot put), Mike Mortensen (pole vault), Sean Shields (shot put) and Matt Wagner (javelin). The men's 4x100m relay team also earned an NCAA provisional-qualifying time.
