Five Bruins Earn All-America Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY - Five Bruin softball players were named NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Americans on Wednesday night at the Women's College World Series banquet. Seniors Stacey Nuveman and Amanda Freed were named to the first team along with junior Natasha Watley and sophomore Keira Goerl. Sophomore designated player Claire Sua was a third-team honoree.
It was the fourth first-team All-America honor for Nuveman. All four of Nuveman's honors have been at catcher. It was the third first-team honor at shortstop for Watley, and the third career All-America honor for Freed, who was nominated as a utility player and was an at-large selection to this year's All-America first team.
Goerl, a first-team selection as a pitcher, and Sua both earned their first career All-America honors.
UCLA, the top seeded team in the 2002 WCWS, opens play on Thursday morning at 10 am CT against eighth-seeded Florida State. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
